Indian Shooting Fraternity Mourns: Jaspal Rana Passes Away at 49, Breathes His Last at Max Hospital

New Delhi: Indian shooting suffered a major loss on Friday as veteran shooter and renowned coach Jaspal Rana passed away at the age of 49. Rana breathed his last at Max Hospital in Saket, New Delhi, following a medical emergency. The news of his demise has sent shockwaves across the Indian sporting community.


According to reports, Rana was returning to India from the ISSF World Cup in Munich, Germany, when he suddenly began experiencing discomfort and health complications during the journey. Sensing the seriousness of the situation, airline staff and his associates provided immediate assistance.
After the flight landed in Delhi, he was rushed to Max Hospital in Saket, where doctors began treatment and closely monitored his condition. Despite the best efforts of the medical team, Rana could not be saved and passed away later.
Rana was serving as the High-Performance Coach of India’s pistol shooting squad. Over the years, he made immense contributions to Indian shooting, not only as an accomplished athlete but also as a mentor who helped shape the careers of several young shooters. Under his guidance, many Indian athletes achieved success at national and international competitions.
The National Rifle Association of India later confirmed his death and expressed deep sorrow over the loss. In its condolence message, the association described Rana as a legendary shooter, an inspiring coach, and a guiding force for Indian shooting.
Widely regarded as one of India’s most successful shooters, Jaspal Rana brought numerous laurels to the country during his illustrious career. His dedication to the sport and commitment to nurturing future champions earned him immense respect within the sporting fraternity.
His passing marks an irreparable loss for Indian sports. Athletes, coaches, sports administrators, and fans from across the country have been paying tribute to the shooting legend and extending their condolences to his family during this difficult time.
